India–Korea Trade Partnership

The India–Korea Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) was signed on 7 August 2009 and entered into force on 1 January 2010. Negotiations to upgrade the CEPA began in 2016, with the objective of expanding market access in goods and services and addressing trade and investment-related issues.

Bilateral merchandise trade between India and Korea reached approximately US$26.88 billion in FY 2024–25, compared with US$18.13 billion in 2014–15.

India–South Korea Investment Partnership

India and South Korea have developed a significant economic relationship supported by the India–Korea Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which entered into force on 1 January 2010. Korean Investment in India

Korean companies have established a substantial presence in India. According to the Embassy of India in Seoul, cumulative Korean investment in India since 1980 is around US$10 billion, while Korean investment during 2025 was reported at hundreds of millions of dollars depending on the data series used. Manufacturing remains the dominant area of Korean investment. More than 670 large and small Korean companies are reported to be operating in India. Major Korean companies with significant Indian operations include: Hyundai Motor Group Kia Samsung Electronics LG Electronics POSCO Hyosung HD Hyundai KRAFTON Korean financial institutions Technology and startup investors

Artificial Intelligence & Digital Investment

AI and digital technology are becoming important components of India–Korea economic cooperation. Opportunities include: Artificial Intelligence Machine learning Cloud computing Cybersecurity Data centers Digital payments Software development Robotics Automation Digital manufacturing Smart-city technologies Enterprise technology. IKBCC can support networking between Indian technology companies, Korean technology companies, startups, universities and investors.

India–Korea CEPA & Investment
 

The India–Korea CEPA was signed on 7 August 2009 and became operational on 1 January 2010.CEPA has supported trade and investment between the two countries.

The two countries are now working toward upgrading the agreement.The 12th round of CEPA upgrade negotiations was held in New Delhi from 25–27 May 2026.The two sides have expressed the objective of concluding the upgraded CEPA by the first half of 2027.
